Researcher Program

Internet-Scale Data for Public-Benefit Research.

Academics studying registration patterns, journalists tracing fraud infrastructure and security researchers following threat-actor campaigns all need the kind of data Deepinfo indexes, and most can’t justify commercial pricing. The Researcher Program gives qualifying projects access at no cost or at reduced cost.

Query

  1. must domain.name fuzzy "deepinfo"
  2. must domain.whois.create_date gte 2025-01-01T00:00:00Z
  3. must dns.mx.mail_servers exists true
  4. must_not domain eq deepinfo.com

Each condition narrows the set, from 400M+ domains to the domains that match

Research With a Public Benefit.

Eligibility is broad in scope and specific in standards. Every qualifying project ends in public output.

Academic Research

Faculty, post-docs and graduate researchers at degree-granting institutions.

Independent Security Research

Researchers with a documented track record: CVE disclosures, attribution work, public publications.

Investigative Journalism

Reporters at recognized publications, or independent reporting with a verifiable methodology.

Civil-Society Research

Non-profit organizations studying internet phenomena, fraud or digital rights.

Open-Source Intelligence

OSINT research with a documented methodology and public output.

Outside This Program

Commercial research, paid threat intelligence for clients and work without a public output fit standard pricing or a partner agreement.

Access for Real Research Questions.

Access

Free or Reduced Cost

Free for qualifying academic, civil-society and independent projects with a clear public benefit. Reduced cost for projects with hybrid funding. Scope and terms are set per project.

Dataset

Deep Search & Insights

The primary research tool: direct queries over the domain and CVE corpora, with reverse lookups and history. Program members query on the same terms as commercial users.

Onboarding

Methodology Consultation

A session with Deepinfo’s data team on the dataset’s structure, coverage and limits. Research that misreads the data helps nobody, so we’d rather explain it upfront.

Publication

Acknowledgment, Not Control

We ask for acknowledgment in published work, in a citation format we provide. We take no editorial control and no pre-publication review.

A Research Question in One Query.

Domain Search filters the domain dataset field by field, combining conditions with boolean logic. The example query asks for names close to a brand, registered since the start of 2025, that already have mail servers.

Each search returns a capped set of results. Questions that need the whole corpus take a different route, which we scope with you during the review.

  • Reverse IP, MX, NS and WHOIS email lookups
  • WHOIS history and passive DNS history
  • CVE records with CVSS, EPSS, CISA KEV and CWE
  • Registration counts by day, TLD and keyword

From Application to a Research Agreement.

  1. 01

    Apply

Send the form below. The project details it asks for are what the review checks.

  2. 02

    Review

A Deepinfo team member checks the public-benefit dimension and scopes your data needs. Projects with complex needs get a methodology call during the review.

  3. 03

    Agreement and onboarding

Once approved, you sign a Researcher Program agreement covering acknowledgment and acceptable use, then get access. The consultation happens on your timeline.

Apply for the Researcher Program.

Only your email is required. Put the project details in the message, so the review can start without a back-and-forth.

  • Research question and methodology
  • Institution, publication or organization
  • Intended public output
  • The data you expect to query
  • Funding model, if any

Questions Researchers Ask Us.

Do we work in the platform or through the API?

Either. Analysts query Deep Search & Insights in the Deepinfo Platform, and code calls the REST API with an apikey header, as in the example above. Which endpoints your key can call is part of the scope set for your project.

Can we use the data for paid client work?

Not under this program. Commercial research and paid threat intelligence work fit standard pricing or a partner agreement.

Where can we read about the dataset’s limits?

Collection, scanning and scoring are documented in the methodology, and the onboarding consultation covers the limits that matter for your question. Tell us early if your question needs more results than one search returns.

How long does program access last?

It is set per project. The scope and terms of your Researcher Program agreement follow the project you describe in the application, so include its timeline there.

Bring Us a Research Question.

Apply for the Researcher Program. If your project doesn’t quite fit, or you’re not sure it does, ask us first: edge cases are reviewed individually.
